Now let’s dive into the tips that will help you unlock some extra productivity!
- Create a Central Hub for Activity: Kitchens environments thrive in spaces that feel like a hub for action. Position your workspace in a central area of your home where energy and interaction naturally flow, such as near the living room or dining room, or even in a space connected to your kitchen. This gives you a sense of movement and connection while working.
- Dynamic Workspace Setup: Keep your workspace flexible to encourage movement and creativity. A standing desk, a rolling chair, or modular furniture that can be rearranged easily allows you to change your environment as needed, mimicking the lively energy of a kitchen where things are constantly in motion.
- Incorporate Multiple Surfaces: Just like a kitchen has different surfaces for preparing various ingredients, set up multiple work areas in your office. Have one desk for focused work, a larger table for spreading out creative projects, and perhaps a smaller area for writing or making notes. This variety allows you to switch tasks seamlessly and stay in flow.
- Encourage Collaboration: Since the Kitchens environment is all about mixing ideas, consider setting up a space for collaboration. This could be a designated area for Zoom meetings, brainstorming sessions, or even an area to work side-by-side with others. Make it easy to bring people into your space, even if it’s just for a quick chat or feedback session.
- Inspire Creative Energy: Kitchens environments are naturally creative, so surround yourself with tools that inspire your imagination. Use vision boards, inspirational quotes, or keep creative supplies (like whiteboards, sticky notes, or sketchpads) within easy reach. This will give help your ideas and momentum flow.
- Display “Ingredients” of Your Work: In the same way that ingredients are laid out in a kitchen, keep visual reminders of your current projects on display. Use an inspiration board or keep notes, sketches, or project materials visible. Seeing all the pieces of your work laid out can inspire new connections and ideas.
- Open, Warm Lighting: Kitchens often have warm, inviting lighting. Use soft, ambient light in your workspace to create a similar atmosphere. Avoid harsh, overly bright lights; instead, use lamps or pendant lights that create a cozy, collaborative feel, making your workspace feel like an inviting place to experiment and create.
- Keep Energy Flowing with Open Storage: Like a well-organized kitchen, your workspace should have open storage where tools, supplies, or ideas are easily accessible. Use shelves or open cabinets to store books, supplies, or inspiration. This allows for easy access, keeping the creative energy flowing as you work.
- Create a “Recipe” for Your Day: In Kitchens environments, everything is about mixing and creating. Apply this concept to your daily schedule by creating a flexible “recipe” for your workday. Break your day into chunks of time, each dedicated to different tasks, like how a recipe follows specific steps. This structured flexibility will help you stay focused while allowing room for creativity.
- Decorate with Colors that Stimulate Creativity: Kitchens are vibrant, bustling spaces, so introduce bold or warm colors into your workspace to mimic that energy. Consider adding splashes of red, orange, or yellow in your decor or workspace materials to stimulate mental activity and boost the flow of ideas.
- Use Music to Set the Mood: Just like background music adds warmth to a kitchen, consider using music to create the right energy for your workspace. Besides your favourite tunes you can also play stimulating frequencies that can help stimulate your brain and maintain high-energy + vibe. Adjust the music depending on the task at hand—upbeat for brainstorming, calm for focused work.
